Energy Statements for Planning Applications

An Energy Statement is often required by the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to demonstrate how a development will meet Building Regulations and local energy and sustainability policies.

Specific local targets often apply to energy demand, CO2 emissions and the provision of renewable technologies.

The LPA requirement can be more demanding than the standards required by the Part L 2021 of the Building Regulations.

What would be included in a typical Energy Statement?

  • Energy and CO2 Demand for the site
  • Energy and CO2 emission reductions targets
  • Proposed materials, heating, lighting and ventilation specifications
  • Potential Renewable energy solutions
  • Sample SAP and SBEM calculations
  • And any other considerations (dependent on the LPA requirements)
